Well, for any of those still buying the (standard business school and now neocon) thesis that politics don't "really" affect markets, watch those citadels of "rationalism" get rattled yet again this week by horrendous bad political news flow past 24 hours.... The President got a devasting blast from a former insider (and original Reaganite) on his Iraq obsession and fighting the wrong war.... (e.g. making war on Iraq when the focus should have been on al-qaeda... hardly a new accusation)

And over in Pakistan, (as anticipated here) turns out they didn't get "him." Sigh. But they did get a good deal of promises from the USA....

Then the Israeli Likudnik gov't takes advantage of the anticipated US political firestore to "take out" a blind octogenarian quadriplegic....

Of course, the pop-poms @ Fox News cheer them on and loudly call the President's growing list of accusers "liars."

But for some reasons, the markets know better.....

Ah, what was it Roosevelt said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Now the line is, the only thing we have to fear is "democra(t)cy" coming back to America."

PS: Regarding the Bush line to respond to its latest accuser, Sleeeeezy Rice was out this morning with the only pathetic line possible.... Well, there are those who wished to fight on the "narrower" war on terrorism. But the President wanted to fight the "broader" war - and that means spreading "democracy" to Iraq (by force) so it can spread to the rest of the region. Once the rest of the region becomes "democratized," then there will be peace and nobody will think of becoming terrorists.

Ah, the neocons are still preaching a perverted version of the "democratic peace thesis" .... If they really believed it, they'd be all for democracy in places like Egypt and Pakistan.... but of course, "they" have authoritarian rulers who are our friends.... Its those places that have real elections (like Spain) that we have to worry about....
