Go to Samachar.com where you'll find links to many other newspapers.
The political calculation of the ruling BJP was too wrong. They focussed too much on business and too little on the poor people. So the poor voted with their feet. And then there is an emotional bond between the Nehru-Gandhi family and a significant number of Indians. I guess most of the majority of literate/middle-class people understand that BJP rule is good, but this is not understood by the ill-literate/poor people ... and there you have the election results !
Now the majority party (Congress) has no choice but to form a government with the support of Communists (Yes ! Believe that ! Communism is still alive !) And they have already started speaking against the market reforms, speaking against privatization ... *sigh*
I dislike Congress/Communist very much ... but there is nothing one can do but to watch how much away they take India from a free/capitalistic way ... *sigh*
... That's the democracy for you.
...
Foreign policy ... I guess the relations will grow cold/colder between India and the US soon. India / Pakistan ... no idea ... I hope that whatever little progress has been made towards peace will not be rolled back. BTW Pakistan was defeated in '71 and India made 2 seperate countries from the defeated Pakistan. ... The PM who is credited with this resounding defeat of Pakistan is late PM Indira Gandhi - the Mother-in-law of the in-coming PM - Sonia Gandhi. Therefore it is hard to imagine that Pakistanis will have any gentle feeling for Ms Sonia Gandhi.
...
All in all ... the future does not look too bright for India, under the new govt. *sigh*
